Peanuts (arachis hypogaea). Delicious, yet also deadly to many - where peanut allergy is the most common cause of food-induced anaphylaxis. It is a legume crop grown mainly for its edible seeds.

The peanut belongs to the legume, bean or pea family. Strictly, the peanut is not a nut, where by definition a nut is a fruit whose ovary wall becomes hard at maturity. It is normally classed as nuts for culinary purposes.

That brings us to the peanut pancake - also one of the most popular dishes, that combines the delicate tastes of peanut with the home-made textures of batter with eggs, milk and butter and cooked on a hot surface such as a griddle or frying pan...

And the look alike peanut (arachis duranensis) plans that we see so commonly here in Singapore.
