Peanuts (arachis hypogaea). Delicious, yet also deadly to many - where peanut allergy is the most common cause of food-induced anaphylaxis. It is a legume crop grown mainly for its edible seeds.

The peanut belongs to the legume, bean or pea family. Strictly, the peanut is not a nut, where by definition a nut is a fruit whose ovary wall becomes hard at maturity. It is normally classed as nuts for culinary purposes.
